Marylee Orr, Executive Director of LEAN was recently interview by Jon Bowermaster on the status of gulf seafood and its safety.
* Much of the government’s evidence continues to be based on “sensory testing”—essentially giving seafood a sniff test. Shrimp or fish only go on to further government testing if they smell bad. “We’ve given the seafood we’ve tested the smell test, and there was no odor,” says Orr. “However, when we got the numbers back after testing it, they were alarmingly high for both petroleum hydrocarbons and PAHs.”

A special thank you from some of the less fortunate families in the hard hit fishing communities to all those caring individuals that gave so generously at the first annual Angel of the Delta Festival. The food donated was distributed on Tuesday November 23rd. For those that gave a monetary donation, those funds were used to purchase additional food and much needed personal care products.
LMRK is still taking donations that will be distributed for Christmas.
If you would like to give please visit our Food Drive for the Fishermen page.
