The Louisiana Environmental Action Network released the following evaluation on November 26th 2010 Evaluation of the Results of Whole Blood Volatile Solvents Testing By Wilma Subra and Marylee Orr Louisiana Environmental Action Network - Baton Rouge, LA http://www.LeanWeb.org Download the PDF 78.60 Kb
A whole blood sample was collected from a 47 year old male on November 8, 2010. The blood sample was analyzed for Volatile Solvents by Method 0762 , by Metametrix Clinical Laboratory in Pensacola, Florida. Ethylbenzene The whole blood sample contained 0.48 ppb Ethylbenzene. This value is 4.4 times higher than the NHANES 95th Percentile value of 0.11 ppb for Ethylbenzene. The Ethylbenzene value was higher than the values (0.1 to 0.44 ppb) obtained from a sampling in August 2010 of three females and five males who were residents and BP cleanup workers in Alabama and Florida. Styrene The whole blood sample contained 1.2 - 3.9 ppb Styrene. The Styrene value is more than 10 times higher the NHANES 95th Percentile value of 0.12 ppb. Styrene was not detected in any of the eight individuals sampled in August 2010. m,p-Xylene The whole blood sample contained 0.4 - 1.3 ppb m,p-Xylene. This value was 1.2 times higher than the NHANES 95th Percentile value of 0.34 ppb. The m,p-Xylene value was the same as the value detected in the eight individuals sampled in August 2010. Hexane The whole blood sample contained 148.90 ppb Hexane. This value was in approximately the NHANES 14th Percentile. The Hexane value was larger than seven of the eight values of Hexane in the blood of the eight individuals sampled in August 2010. 2-Methylpentane The whole blood sample contained 47.3 ppb 2-Methylpentane. This value was in approximately the NHANES 31st Percentile. The value was in the lower range of values (40.0 - 100.4 ppb) detected in the blood of the eight individuals sampled in August 2010. 3-Methylpentane The whole blood sample contained 38.6 ppb 3-Methylpentane. The value was in approximately the NHANES 3 Percentile. The value was in the low range of values (32.7 - 86.1 ppb) detected in the blood of the eight individuals sampled in August 2010. Isooctane The whole blood sample contained 3.46 ppb Isooctane. This value was in approximately the NHANES 2nd Percentile. The value was lower than the values (4.77 - 11.14 ppb) detected in the blood of the eight individuals sampled in August 2010.
